The Challenge

River Ridge Commerce Center is a regional economic development magnet, drawing major employers and supporting growth across the Louisville-Southern Indiana region. More than 11,000 people work at companies that call River Ridge home, and the center’s economic impact is more than $2.5 billion annually and creates or sustains more than 17,500 regional jobs.

The park’s meteoric growth posed a challenge for its managing agency, the River Ridge Development Authority. The park is less than one-third developed, and tens of millions of dollars in additional investments in roads, waterworks, and demolition projects are required to transform the former Army ammunition depot into a thriving business community. Many in the community did not understand the authority’s need to reinvest proceeds from its land sales back into the business park. The agency also needed to illustrate to its community partners the tremendous economic value it has to the entire region.

The Solution

Working with River Ridge’s leadership and board, C2 Strategic developed a proactive communications approach to promote the business park and better share its story by detailing investments, celebrating milestones and positioning River Ridge as a regional economic driver. Core messaging highlights the long term goals and potential value of continued reinvestments. C2 Strategic leverages media relations, social media and regular stories posted on River Ridge’s website to drive continued interest and familiarity with the business park.

The Results

C2 Strategic led a sharp increase in media coverage immediately. Since C2 began working with River Ridge in mid 2019, River Ridge earned more than 1,800 media mentions across broadcast, print and digital platforms with an estimated value of $2.6 million in outlets like USA Today, the Indiana Business Journal and Louisville Business First. River Ridge is now telling its own story in a way that helps the entire community better understand and support reinvestments being made – investments that will pay dividends for generations to come.
