The Challenge
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) had planned to host traditional public meetings and stakeholder meetings to gather feedback for an important interstate planning study in May 2020 but all outreach needed to shift to virtual channels due to the COVID-19 pandemic without slowing down the project timeline.
The Solution
C2 Strategic worked quickly to seek out and organize online engagement tools to reach new and traditional audiences for the planning study. A webinar-style meeting was held with stakeholders with extra emphasis on the importance of community outreach from attendees including city services representatives and elected officials. All collateral items were provided in advance and easy to download to be shared online or printed.
Overview videos were produced to distill project information and explain complex design alternatives to the public. C2 Strategic utilized sophisticated surveying tools to pinpoint concerns and collect a large amount of useable data linked to the project area.
The Results
KYTC applauded how outreach was facilitated in a professional and informational way, using this project as an example of successful online public involvement internally and shared lessons learned with transportation cabinets in other states. The project team was able to collect hundreds of data points and feedback items to paint a vibrant picture of the problem areas and necessary improvements.
