P3I recently returned from a conference in Dallas where hundreds of us spent three days learning about a letter and a number – P3.

In states and communities across America, leaders are talking about P3, which is short hand for public-private partnerships. It’s a financing solution that, in some cases, can help governments build needed infrastructure – roads, bridges, schools, hospitals, college dorms and more.

In Kentucky, lawmakers are considering legislation that would help broaden the use of P3s to help with our long list of infrastructure needs.

At the conference, speaker after speaker hit upon one of the biggest problems with P3. People simply don’t understand it. Maybe it’s because it’s “high finance,” something that those of us without an MBA or finance degree can’t easily grasp. Maybe it’s because it’s “not the way we do things here.”

So in the interest of education, here’s a short, entertaining video that will help you understand more about P3s.
